Sunnyside House Before Pictures

Welcome to our new house...

Last week we closed on our newest fixer upper. We've been living in Chicago since we sold the Chalet in August, so we had to put an offer in before we'd seen it in person. Thankfully, the timing worked out so that Jordan flew to Denver a couple hours before the deal was final. He took a quick walk through, snapped some pictures for me, and signed our names.

I still haven't seen it, but I can tell you what I know: One bedroom, two bathrooms, 900 square feet, not counting the basement. It's located in Sunnyside, a Denver neighborhood north of downtown. It's walkable to one of my favorite coffee shops and to the highway. It's a small house on a big lot (for the city, 8750 sq. feet) with potential to "flip" it many different ways.

We're still figuring out exactly what we want to change, but in the meantime there are some projects we want to do before we move in--painting, knocking out closets, and opening up a wall. Jordan is there now, taking care of those things, while I hang back for a week to avoid the dust. I'm sending him paint ideas via Pinterest pictures, so we'll see how this long distance decorating turns out.

It's much less gross than The Chalet was, so we will be able live in the house "as is" for as long as we want to before starting any major construction. We actually have another house project in the works that we are planning to tackle first. I'll post some details on that one in a few weeks.

Living room.
The door to the bedroom is on the right, and the front door is on the left. It's not an extra wide door, they just used an extra wide camera lens to trick us into thinking the house looks bigger than it is.

The dinning area is on the other side of the room. These wood floors make me so happy because staining wood floors makes us so mad.

This is the bedroom, with closets in the cut out, and the bathroom door on the left.

The color of this bathroom led us to believe the previous owner was a Colts fan. Other than that, there's nothing really wrong with it. We'll probably paint the wall and the sink vanity and call it a day.

Our suspicions were confirmed when we found a tiny Colts sticker on the tiny fridge.

We're going to wait to do a full kitchen remodel. But in the meantime, I'm strongly considering coral colored cabinet fronts, with a gray background. Because when else could I have a pink kitchen without living in Florida? And besides, what else goes with almond colored counter tops?

This is the giant hallway/tiny room behind the kitchen.

It leads to the sunroom, which was a later (and poorly done) addition on the back of the house.

Lots of wood paneling, funky floors, and badly insulated windows.
On the plus side, it can double as a walk-in freezer in the winter.

Big patio with lots of potential.

I was praying for a house with a garden!
I meant a garden already overflowing with organic produce, but I guess I should have clarified.

And now for the pictures they didn't post on Zillow:
The basement is where it starts to get really scary.

I'm thinking I might just not come down here. Ever.

But never fear! Jordan to the rescue...

I'll post more pictures of our initial progress next week, when I go out there and see it in person!
